A large French provincial oak commode

A large scale oak French provincial three drawer commode. The top has a simple moulding echoed around the drawers. At the base there is a shaped frieze and the whole stands on short cabriole legs.

France probably Burgundy circa 1800

Height 36 Inches, width 60 inches, depth 24 inches.

By repute this wide commode is a type known as a “pantaloniere”. The idea being that it was wide enough for trousers to laid full length along each drawer. This was in the days before hanging wardrobes.
